I’ve been obsessed with the Huon shirt and dress from Muna and Broad since it came out. I’ve made a couple of versions of the Seamwork Jo shirt and it sort of has similar vibes, but the long sleeves on the Huon are what draw me in. I just love them!
I chose to make the long sleeve shirt version in size G, based on my bust measurement. My hips are a bit small for that size, but since the style isn’t meant to be fitted there, I knew it would be fine. I made no modifications to the pattern.
I made it in a lightweight rayon twill from Fabricville. The shade is sort of a dusty rose. The fabric was lovely to work with and presses so beautifully.
I only made a teeny mistake. The buttonhole step is done before you sew the placket to the shirt. It’s a hidden placket so it’s much easier to sew the buttonholes before. I got my placement wrong though and the buttonholes ended up too close to the seam. That meant when I went to sew on my buttons (vintage plastic shank buttons), the placket fell open instead of covering the buttons. So I switched out the buttons and sewed on a whole new set with flatter buttons. The placket isn’t perfectly flat but much better. I kept the vintage buttons on the neck and wrists because they are a super close match to the fabric.
I really love the pattern. It has a flowy romantic vibe, especially in this colour. I love the sleeves. They feel so chic and the way the placket is done is so good. It creates a lovely finish. *chef’s kiss*
The instructions for all M&B patterns are so freaking good and supplemented with YouTube videos if you get stuck on a step. I check those videos if I run into any issues and just to listen to Leila’s lovely voice. ❤
I freaking love the sleeves. I love the shape. I love the fabric so much. I love the soft gathers. I love the hidden placket. I love so much about this pattern that I just…. can’t even…
Sometimes I feel like reviewing M&B patterns is just a gush-fest. I really cannot find any fault in them so it feels like I am just going on and on about how much I love them. I don’t think that is a bad thing, but geez… gushing constantly is leaving no spice in my posts. Hhaha. Instead, I give you a silly picture:
